NC - Herbert Bonner Bridge Sunset Wave.jpg
The Oregon Inlet was originally carved out by hurricane in 1846. Like many other inlets, it has slowly migrated southward since. However, the Oregon Inlet has become a critical passageway for commercial fisherman from local markets to reach the gulf, making its constant dredging and maintenance an economic issue. Further, the bridge spanning the inlet--Bonner Bridge--is the only land access to the southern Outer Banks, carrying locals and tourists alike to the seven villages to the south.
